Simon Murray
Baritone Saxophone

Simon started his musical training at an early age, gaining a place in the National Youth Music Theatre of Great Britain. Originally from Burton Upon Trent, in 1998 he was awarded Staffordshire Young Musician of the Year, as well as receiving the Outstanding Improvisation Prize, and having one of his compositions performed at the National Festival of Music for Youth.

He later became first clarinettist for the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain before continuing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, and the New England Conservatory, Boston, USA.

He has been a featured soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, toured with Opera North and has also recorded and performed with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Telford New Symphony, British Philharmonic, English Pro Musica and the British Festival Orchestras.

In music theatre Simon has played in the professional productions of Beauty and the Beast‚, Marriage of Figaro‚, Pinocchio‚ Oliver!‚ Summer Holiday‚ with Susanne Shaw and Darren Day, Fiddler on the Roof‚ with Paul Nicholas, and Annie‚ with Su Pollard.

As a musical director and vocal coach, Simon has conducted many shows in the North West, receiving NODA Best Musical Director‚ nominations both in 2005 (My Fair Lady) and 2006 (Carousel). This year he will be the musical director for productions of Little Shop of Horrors‚ Annie‚ and Oliver! Simon is currently on the national tour of 42nd Street.
